Suite Compostelana - Federico Mompou

Suite Compostelana - Federico Mompou

The "Suite Compostelana" is a composition consisting of six movements, dedicated to Andrés Segovia and created in 1962. Each movement evokes the essence of Santiago de Compostela, the historic city of Galicia, Spain.

The composer, Frederic Mompou, skillfully employs a variety of styles and musical atmospheres, including traditional Spanish melodies, ancient chants, and a combination of modal scales with 20th-century modern harmony. These elements evoke scenes of the rainy Galician city, as well as traditional dances imitating the sound of the bagpipes, and metallic chords (from the bell) characteristic of the composer.
