Joaquín Rodrigo composed it in the summer of 1938. “This work could be interpreted not only as a vivid evocation of the summer landscape but also as a song of return home in which the Spanish national instrument suddenly became one of Rodrigo's most intimately expressive voices.” The work is dedicated to the guitarist Narciso Yepes and was premiered by Regino Sáinz de la Maza.
